I took this picture in Kingston School of Arts. I went with my friend to her studio and was amazed by her beautiful work. As soon as I saw this piece I new it would work amazingly with one of the briefs we got assigned. Seen strangely through glass. This piece is painted over glass with crayons and other materials. The way I interpreted this piece is as an all-knowing character, who sits day and night situated on glass as he observes the world around him, and watches people create all varieties of art with both their physical actions and physical pieces of work. I felt strange when catching the glimpse of his eyes staring down at me, as if my presence of motion was viewed in envy by his doomed, still gaze.
The artwork was suspended in the air just below the ceiling, and so I positioned my iPhone above my head and took a picture of it. As soon as I uploaded the image to my laptop, I was taken by surprise at how differently I could view the piece of art. Most of my shock came from how the colour and texture blended with the light, which could be seen breaking its way through the glass. This generated a new aspect to the image, as new ways of perceiving it appeared that were less present to the naked eye – such as the ways mentioned above.
