When I first read the quote “What did you do, he says, kill your husband?” from “Widow”, a short story. (Latiolais, M. 2011). I knew immediately I wanted to do a 21st century “Black Widow” theme. It was a challenge as I still wanted to keep an old 50s feel to the photos. These five pictures are inspired by 5 killer wives through history. Betty Neuman, Stacey Castor, Chisako Kakehi, Mary Elizabeth Wilson, and Evelyn Dick. These three ladies are famous “Black Widows”. My inspiration for this photoshoot was to dress up the models in a contemporary way but edit the pictures as old photographs. Every model has a different scenario with a gloomy weather to fit the aesthetic. I told my friends to try to convey a sadness with heartless expressions. I styled the five of them, did the makeup and took the picture. I edited the pictures in “Adobe Photoshop”. I decided to play with different tints as well as exposure, temperature, vignette, etc. This photo essay is targeted for a fashion magazine. A magazine that explores fashion as art with a gruesome twist. The story line for this photoshoot is in a funeral. Their partners just died in a mysterious way, and they have inherited all their fortune. This story line helped my friends create different characters. This was an amazing experience as I made my vision come true, I got to work with my friends in a creative environment and see how they portrayed my storyline on their own different ways. The 5 pictures are attached in the word document.
