I was excited when I found out we were going to learn how to edit sound in my Digital Media Foundations class. I was also scared as I have never worked with sound before. I wanted to create a piece that follows the feelings of my past work in my blog. A calm but nostalgic feel. To create this piece, we needed to have a voice recording, an atmosphere recording and a music track that compliments both of them. I had a hard time getting familiar with Audacity which is the app we were meant to use to edit the sounds. Once I got the hang of it, it became easy and fun to work with.
For my atmosphere recording I knew right away that I wanted to record the river that I live next to. That river has such calm energy, it never fails to make me feel better when I am having a hard day. I use the calm sound to give my piece some balance. I used a song called “Black Sun – Love Is Key” ( Caponoe, O. 2019). This is such a beautiful song with a melancholic and hopelessness feel. For the voice recording I read a small passage from a book called “Abarat”,(Baker, C. 2001). I really liked this passage as it has a macabre message with a serene tone. My whole piece is about life after death. It is a scary and unknown thing, but somehow reassuring and restful. Let the golden age of funerals begin.
